An independent kindergarten readiness assessment helps you understand how prepared your child is for the academic and social demands of kindergarten—before the school year begins. Families often schedule in late spring or early summer to identify strengths and any skill gaps early enough to practice over the summer. The evaluation reviews key areas linked to school success, including early literacy and number concepts, language development, attention and learning readiness, social-emotional skills, and fine/gross motor development. You’ll receive clear results and practical, targeted recommendations you can use at home and share with the school.
Kindergarten expectations vary widely, and many children look “ready” in some areas while needing support in others. A readiness evaluation gives you an objective picture of your child’s current development—so you’re not relying on guesswork, comparisons to peers, or mixed messages. It can help determine whether your child is on pace with pre-academic skills, able to follow routines, manage transitions, and sustain attention for learning activities. When done in late spring or early summer, it also provides time to strengthen skills through simple practice and play-based activities, reducing stress and improving the start to kindergarten.
To determine readiness for kindergarten across learning, behavior, and developmental skills and to guide practical preparation before school starts.
Children typically ages 4 through 5 years, 11 months, especially those entering kindergarten soon or families deciding between starting now vs. waiting.
Late spring or early summer is ideal so you can work on recommendations over the summer and begin kindergarten with confidence.
Our approach is designed to be detailed enough to be meaningful, but comfortable for young children. We use developmentally appropriate methods and focus on understanding your child’s learning style—not just a checklist of skills. You’ll get feedback that’s easy to understand, specific, and actionable, with targeted recommendations you can apply immediately at home and discuss with teachers if needed. If results suggest that additional evaluation or support may be helpful (for example, attention, speech/language, or learning concerns), we’ll explain what that means and outline sensible next steps. Please note this service is considered academic in nature and is typically not covered by insurance.
The readiness evaluation combines parent input with direct testing and observation to capture how your child learns and functions in “school-like” tasks. It includes a developmental interview with the parent and age-appropriate activities that look at early pre-academic skills (like letter awareness, sound skills, counting, and basic concepts), language comprehension and expression, attention and learning behaviors, and social-emotional development such as frustration tolerance and flexibility. Motor skills are also reviewed, including fine-motor abilities important for writing and classroom tasks. The session typically takes 1–2 hours and ends with clear next steps.
Fine/gross motor skills, social-emotional development, attention/concentration and learning readiness, language development, and cognition/early knowledge.
Most evaluations take about 1–2 hours and include a developmental interview with the parent/guardian.
